Wordpress Shopping Cart Is it Good enough

Features

Needed for a medium store but not currently available. If anyone happens to read this, it is not a review. There are a number of good aspect of this plugin but I will only be looking at what is missing. I am using this post to help me track my thoughts on the setup of this site

Last semi stable version: 3.5.2

The update process did not update the database correctly I had to add several fields to one of the table to get it to work.  Gold version not working.  No response on forum on to email over a 2 week period.

Support - Almost Non-existence in forum, forum is pretty much inactive.

Variations Only one type of option per product, no way to have both a color and size choice.

General Admin issues:

No search for items, to select for editing.

 User interface

No bread crumb or other navigation back to the store after a individual product page is opened.

Photo Management

It needs Proportional photo resizing -

Select one side size and have the other side auto resize to match the original proportions

For Now I recommend building thumbnail outside of the cart and uploading them separately.

Assign and select photos to and from subdirectories - (thumbnail views maybe) photo management when there is a large number 0f products can be a real chore.

Category management

It does not seem that you can change the display order of categories. In our case I would want the power massagers as the first category.

Import and Export

No import ability for products, should be able to develop with out to much work

The ability to import items is critical to developing a good size store. The ability to export sales data, products for shopping comparison sites, and more really helps the management of an active store.

Product management

After deleting, a product in no longer shows up in the admin interface but it does still show up in the product list on the customer side, if the shop options> Categories/Products Display: is set to sliding categories

Category Selection more than 20 or 30 categories in this cart would start to cause display problems, OnLists all categorys at the top of each page in a vertical list; if needed should be in a horizontal list, but in general not a good naviagtion setup for a shop with very many categories.  We need to be able to filter/search for categories rather than display them all in the admin interface, maybe as a fall back a dropdown with multiple item selection allowed.

Shipping Costs A custom shipping table that could assign a shipping cost based on the order value, or weight or number of items would greatly improve the flexibility of the cart.     - ie for orders  $0 - $10  s/h  $6.00;  for orders $11-$20 s/h $8.00 ect.  Now it is hard to set shipping prices so that an order of multiple items is not overly expensive to ship.

Eventually an API interface with USP and FEDEX would be helpful to most mid size merchants

Payment Options- paypal only for a free version is reasonable, Google checkout would be a nice addition, but only authorize.net under a paid version is not enough. would need ability to interface with other systems. (NZ payment options is nz the target market for this plugin??)

The payment gateway if implemented by the merchant should be selectable by the customer, credit card - paypal - google should  all be user selectable at time of purchase.

Documentation Generally a weak point in wordpress free plugins - here too, but mostly intuitive

Web Site Reviews

A little about everything

If you can think up a general topic, this fellow has probably posted something related to it in his multi topic blog . This blog is a truely wide ranging look at the world we live in. Plenty to read about here.  While I generally do not like dark themes, he has made this one very readable with a good use of gradients and a bright white font set.
